I pitched a few concepts for this album — interpretations of new birth through mess or filth. The band was attracted to the striking simplicity of this concept that depicted water baptism, which happened to also be my favored direction, so we moved forward with execution. I had envisioned a long-haired model for this image — something about matted wet locks felt like it tied it all together. But we also wanted a symbolic white shirt (without any scandalous reveals) so my model options were limited to a long-haired male. The photoshoot happened to take place in the cold of February, so my model options were narrowed down even further. Who would be willing to submerge the frozen waters of Lake Crescent (a glacier-fed lake near my hometown)? Enter Levi, my dreadlocked and soft-hearted little brother.
